I’m going to say… I wish my mead turned out well, but it didn’t, and this is due to the fact that, I added raisins with preservatives and my mead FULLY stalled. Like… I added EC 1118 (A known yeast that remains active in hostile environments) and that barely lowered the gravity.
I based this recipe off of one I found on a blog (I do not have the source),
I think if properly made this mead could be good, and while this has had decent reviews from friends, it’s more of a mixer than a stand alone mead. In fact, as a mixer it’s a favorite! I think my friend Christina has drunk most of the bottles.
Primary:
1/2 pack Lalvin 71B
3lb Orange Blossom Honey (Feel free to change this up)
1 quart Knudson’s Blueberry Juice
Instructions from blog post: Boiled 1 cup Fresh Basil. Added black tea bag to steep, 1 tsp Lemon Peel & handful of Crimson Raisins
(Note: I would not add black tea, raisins or the peel. The raisins I do believe were a part of the recipe as a form of nutrient – this is NOT sufficient for yeast health)
Use TOSNA 2.0 nutrient addition with FermaidO & Goferm
Acid & Tannin balancing
Secondary:
Rack
Stabilize
Backsweeten to taste
Clear & Bottle
